Boys Varsity Baseball · Baseball Wins In Walk Off Fashion

The Sultans evened their overall record to 2–2 with a walk off win vs Bonita Vista on Friday. Junior LHP Blake Taylor made his varsity debut by spinning a 4 hitter and giving up only 1 run in 7 innings. Blake retired 16 of the last 17 hitters he faced. He also picked off 3 base runners to set a school record. The Sultans were down 1-0 until the 5th when Tyler Fitzgerald singled to right with 1 out. Randy Smith pinch ran for Tyler and advanced to 2nd on freshman Elijah Reber’s drag bunt single. Davin Burroughs then drove a single to center to drive in Smith with the tying run. Neither team could score in the 6th or 7th inning and senior RHP Ryan Jaggard entered the game in the 8th looking to keep the BV Barons bats quiet. After getting 2 quick outs, Jaggard gave up an infield single and then promptly picked the runner off for the Sultans 4th pick of the game. Senior Brandon Glowacki led off the bottom of the 8th by getting hit by a pitch. Davin Burroughs executed a perfect bunt for a single to put runners on 1st and 2nd to set the stage for sophomore Tyler Glowacki. Tyler stroked the 1st pitch he saw down the right field line for a double to knock in his brother for the walk off win. The Sultans next game is Monday, March 4th at Eastlake HS.
