The Sultans showed a strong offense Friday afternoon but it was not enough as they fell to St Augustine in a game played at Hickman Field. Both pitching staffs had their hands full in a high scoring affair where the Saints bested Santana 14-10. Saints got on board in the first inning when Angelo Peraza escaped from a rundown with 2 outs between 2nd and third and then scampered home when it was left unattended. The Sultans tied it in the top of the 2nd. Sean Iverson led off the inning with a single to right. Aiden got the first of his three hits on the day and singled Iverson to third. Tyler Fitzgerald then perfectly executed a safety squeeze bunt to score Iverson. St Augustine responded in the bottom half of the 2nd when they scored 3 runs on 4 hits. The most damaging hit was a two out triple to knock in 2 runs by Pyatt. The Sultans showed what they are made of when they returned the favor and scored 4 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks and an error in the top of the 3rd. Aiden Donavan was again in the middle of the rally with a single and 2 rbi. The Saints took the lead for good in the 3rd when they scored 7 runs on 4 hits, 1 HB and 3 errors. The Sultans responded once again in the 5th when they scored 5 more runs. Davin Burroughs, Brandon Glowacki, Tyler Glowacki and Sean Iverson all drove in runs during the rally.
Blake Taylor started on the mound for Santana. He went 1 2/3 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits, striking out one with no base on balls. Riley Hamilton, Ryan Jaggard and Dean Landers each contributed in relief. The Sultans next game is Monday, March 11 at home vs Madison HS. Game time 3:30 pm
