Multiple Teams · HSSA Scholar Athletes


The High School Sports Association San Diego will be honoring the top Scholar Athletes from each school in San Diego and Imperial counties. This years ceremony was cancelled due to Covid-19 at the Scottish Rite Center but the HSSA will be mailing their awards along with the program to their households and have an online ceremony coming up soon. This annual event also rewards 9 student HSSA athletes with scholarships up to $5,000 each.  Congratulations to Seniors Lakaila-Aquiningoc-David and Cole Hunter as Santana’s HSSA Scholar Athletes of the Year.

Lakaila-Aquiningoc-David- 4.6 gpa, played Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball.  Was Second Team All League in Volleyball and team MVP, Member of CIF Runner up Volleyball Team 2018, First Team All League Basketball 2019-2020, Grossmont Valley Player of the Year Girls Basketball, Member of the back to back Girls Basketball League Championship Teams 2019, and 2020, Second Team All League Softball 2018, First Team All League 2019, All East County Team Softball 2019, Member of the 2017 CIF Championship Softball Team. Member of the Union Tribune All Academic Team in all Three Sports. Lakaila will be attending UC Davis and majoring in Animal Science and become a Veterinarian.

Cole Hunter- 4.75 gpa, played Tennis all four years on the Varsity Team.  Was Second Team All League 2018, First Team All League 2019, MVP 2018 and 2019, and if his Spring Season was not cut short due to Covid-19 was the front runner to be the individual league champion and front runner for First Team All League again along with All CIF honors.  Cole will be attending the University of California San Diego in the Fall.
